CDL Licenses and the H Endorsement

CDL Licenses and the H Endorsement

For any commercial truck driver to legally operate a truck they must be in possession of a commercial drivers license (CDL) and have the appropriate class designated on their license. Those truckers or trucking companies who transport hazardous materials must also have an additional H endorsement on their license in order to be federally compliant. For a truck driver to obtain an H endorsement, they must first complete a number of required steps.

At TBS Factoring Service, our freight factoring experts offer a variety of services aimed at helping truckers and truck companies get the money they need to operate successfully. To find out how we can help you or your company succeed, contact us at 800-207-7661.

Requirements for an H Endorsement

In order to obtain an H endorsement, a driver must complete the following steps:

  • Meet certain citizenship requirements
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Pay all required background check and application fees
  • Pass the Knowledge Test

Neglecting to complete these steps or failing either the background check or the knowledge test will cause a driver to be denied the H endorsement, which can be extremely costly to both them and their company as they will not be allowed to transport hazardous materials, which may be an important source of revenue.
