Truck Survey Results

The results of the Commodity Flow Survey confirm the importance of the trucking industry to our economy. The survey showed that, in almost every state, trucks carry:

• At least 60 percent of the total value of shipment
• At least 60 percent of the total weight of shipments

Overall, the businesses surveyed shipped about 12.5 billion tons of freight valued at approximately $11.7 trillion throughout the survey year. The results show that trucking continues to dominate the freight sector by shipping more than 70 percent of both total value and weight.
