Expediting and Hot Shot Trucking

Expedited or “hot shot” trucking jobs are a particular type of freight job in which truckers are handling time-sensitive loads. There are upsides and downsides to expedited freight; for some truck drivers, expedited freight represents a welcome level of excitement and pay, while for others, it is incredibly stressful. Knowing more about it can help you determine whether taking these types of jobs are right for you.

Expedited Freight

In general, expedited freight is a term used to describe a professional trucking job in which a van, truck, flatbed, or rig is hauling time-sensitive material. Because time is of the essence, the premiums paid are usually higher, as is the per-mile rate. The schedule is almost always tight where expedited freight is concerned.

“Hotshot” is more of a casual term, usually describing flatbed or rig jobs requiring immediate service and non-stop delivery. It is sometimes described as bringing a product straight off the assembly line and to the client. The pay is usually very good for “hotshot” jobs.
