Oklahoma Left-Turn Laws
Oklahoma Left-Turn Laws
Oklahoma has recently made statewide changes to its left-turn laws, a move that will affect all truck drivers passing through the state. In the past, Oklahoma law was that a vehicle could turn left at an intersection after duly signaling, requiring oncoming traffic to wait until the vehicle had safely executed its turn. However, some communities questioned the safety of this law, prompting an evaluation by the state legislature.

Understanding the New Oklahoma Left-Turn Law
The overhaul of the Oklahoma left-turn law comes on the heels of city ordinances passed in many communities which required left-turning vehicles to wait until oncoming vehicles had passed before executing the turn. This caused a legal problem, since there was no standardization across the state. Oklahoma legislators convened to address the situation.
The new law provides for the following:
- Before executing a turn, a driver must wait for all oncoming vehicles to pass
- The left-turn signal must be activated before the turn
- If the driver fails to follow the law, a ticket can be issued
If your route takes you through Oklahoma, it is important that you adhere to the new law.
