Truck Accident Statistics
Truck Accident Statistics
Since 1975, the number of large trucks on the roadways has almost doubled. However, due to advances in technology and safety equipment for motor vehicles, the number of fatal accidents has stayed about the same, despite the increase in vehicles. Although this fact seems encouraging, the number of accidents and injuries involving large trucks each year is still cause for alarm, and both truck drivers and passenger vehicle drivers should always use caution on the roads and highways.
Truck Accident Data
According to truck accident data for the year 2008 from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA):
- There were 64,000 truck accidents that caused injury to 90,000 people
- There were 3,733 fatal truck crashes, involving 4,066 vehicles and killing 4,229 people
- .9 percent of truck drivers involved in fatal crashes were under the influence of alcohol
- .7 percent of truck drivers involved in fatal crashes had a BAC greater than the legal limit of 0.08.
- 42,000 trucks were involved in crashes that caused property damage only
At TBS Factoring Service, LLC, we encourage all truck drivers to use caution on the roads, to avoid alcohol and stimulants, and to do their part to prevent serious accidents.
