Rig counts decline

Operators slashed the number of drilling rigs they are using this week to search for oil and natural gas by 62 nationally and by three in Oklahoma, Baker Hughes reported Thursday.

Oklahoma's count is 26, down 78 from 104 a year ago. Nationwide, the active rig count decreased to 602, down 420 from 1,022 one year ago.

The count for rigs drilling for oil declined by 58 to 504, while the number of rigs searching for natural gas fell to 96, off four, week-over-week. The number of operating miscellaneous rigs remained unchanged at two.

In the Cana Woodford, this week’s number of working rigs is just nine, off two, week-over-week. A year ago, 48 rigs were operating in the basin.

The most active basins this week, Baker Hughes said, are the Permian in west Texas and southeast New Mexico at 316, the south Texas Eagle Ford at 51, the Williston at 41 and the Haynesville and Marcellus at 38, each.

Truckers’ webinar planned

An Oklahoma City company that handles invoicing services for independent truckers and other types of independent contractors scheduled a webinar to help them navigate ongoing changes they are encountering because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Officials said TBS Factoring Service is working with stress coach “Coach Carolyn” O’Byrne, “The Drivers Doctor,” Dr. Bethany Dixon, CME, and Trucker Nation cofounders Andrea Marks and Tony Justice to offer the free live-streamed event.

The webinar is planned for 6 p.m. on April 16, officials said.

Topics it will cover include which regulations are waived, what loads qualify and how long that will last, plus how to manage stress while on the road and best ways to sanitize a truck cab to mitigate viruses and other unhealthy bacteria.

Truckers also will get tips about the best places to eat, how to avoid delays at fuel stops and where to find safe free parking.
